Holding off a challenge by activist Ben Forest, Mayor Pasquale Menna secured the top spot on the Democratic ticket in the November election Sunday.
Menna, going for a fourth four-year term, will be joined by two council contenders seeking their first elective office.

After a reset triggered by last November’s election, Red Bank’s majority Democrats took their first concrete step toward a possible large-scale parking solution downtown this week.
Meantime, an adjustment in the allocation of permitted parking was completed recently, opening up more visitor spaces in the town’s largest lot, officials said.
It was shorts and bare-arms weather on Broad Street in Red Bank for the second day in a row Wednesday, when unseasonably warm temperatures topped out in the high 70s, according to the National Weather Service.
The outlook for the Greater Green Thursday shows a return to seasonal norms, with highs in the mid-40s, likely accompanied by rain. Check out the extended forecast:

The murders of 17 people by a gunman in Florida last week prompted a hasty new-member orientation in Red Bank Tuesday night for an organization dedicated to what it calls “common sense gun laws.”
Volunteers with Moms Demand Action said the February 14 slaughter at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland has unleashed a surge of interest unseen since the group’s founding five years ago in the wake of the Newtown, Connecticut murders of 27 children and adults.

After more than a century of service, a Red Bank firehouse is about find new uses within its red brick walls.
And thanks to a recently razed house in Brooklyn, it will get some additional new — or rather, quite old — brickwork.
A light snowfall on the Greater Red Bank Green Saturday night was all but melted away by non-stop sunshine and above-average temperatures Sunday. And as Presidents’ Day inaugurates a new week, we’re in for some record warmth in coming days, according to the National Weather Service,

It’s been a couple of years, literally, in development, and yet the only person who can say when Red Bank’s Triumph Brewing Company might open has been steadfastly mum.
Well, finally, there’s some news.
What’s in store weatherwise for the Greater Red Bank Green this weekend as we head into Washington’s Birthday, also known as Presidents’ Day? In a word, precipitation.
According to the National Weather Service, we’ll see some rain, some peekaboo sunshine and some snow, perhaps as much as three inches.

Mayor Pasquale Menna thinks having horses pull tourist carriages through downtown Red Bank during the Christmas holiday season is “inhumane.”
He said so at Wednesday night’s semimonthly council meeting, when he formally appointed an Animal Welfare Advisory Committee and asked that it look into ending the annual rides.
What does the owner of the horses think?
“Oh, not this idiocy again,” said Tania Lawson, owner of Dream Horse Carriage Rides in Jackson Township.

Fair Haven officials mulled joining other towns in Monmouth and Ocean counties in opposing the legalization of recreational marijuana Monday night.
But the discussion was left unfinished, as council members differed over what specifically they would oppose of Governor Phil Murphy’s plans for legalization, and what they would find acceptable.

Red Bank could see two nearly identical former firehouses getting makeovers in coming months.
The new owner of the former Independent Engine Company firehouse, at 32 Mechanic Street, is planning to create commercial space in the bay where firetrucks were once parked.
A Fair Haven family’s dog was injured this week when she was attacked by a bird, believed to be a red-tailed hawk, according to a report Thursday by News12 New Jersey.

Criminal Mischief: On 01/18/18 in the area of Marine Park it was reported that two white lighthouse power/ water stations were broken and thrown into the water. Also two gray plastic borough garbage cans were also thrown into the water and two swastikas were drawn on top of the snow and ice in the water. Each power station is valued at $8000.00 each and the garbage cans are valued at approximately $30.00 each. Ptl. Sean Hauschildt.
A Shrewsbury police officer is facing charges of assault and harassment following two alleged incidents last month, according to a report by NJ.com.
The news site of the Star-Ledger cites a complaint that alleges Patrolman Ryan Cullinane, 27, showed up unwanted at the home of an unidentified woman two days in a row, and punched an unidentified man in the face in one encounter.
