031715 sisterskitchen4When Michelle Paone rented the space next door to her New Outlook Salon in Shrewsbury some months back, the idea was that it would house a catering business, with her sister working as the chef.

Family obligations on her sister’s side led to the deal falling through at the last minute, however, leaving Paone partner-less. But then Rich Lopazanski, a “fabulous cook” and Paone’s husband’s best friend since elementary school, stepped into the role of chef, clearing the way for the opening of My Sister’s Kitchen about two months ago.

The sister may not have stuck, but the name did – just like the old-school, stick-to-your-ribs meals the kitchen now produces six days a week.

At Patrizia’s on Broad Street in Red Bank, the pizza and pasta are not to be missed. But it would be a good idea to leave a little extra time, and room, for dessert when you visit.

SUGARUSH GETS ‘REWRAPPED’ ON FOOD NET

rewrapped sugarushYes, Red Bank dessert lovers, that IS Chris Paseka and his partner, Jesse Bello, at far left and right respectively, on the set of the new Food Network Show ‘Rewrapped.’ The owners of Red Bank’s Sugarush bakery are scheduled to appear on a future episode of the show, which debuts Monday night and has contestants “re-create and then reinvent some of America’s sweet and savory treats” under the watch of host Joey Fatone. Paseka tells PieHole that he is contractually bound to secrecy about the his and Bello’s involvement in the show but will give us a heads-up before the episode runs. (Click to enlarge)

Today, on a sweltering June day, redbankgreen busts open the freezer with the debut of Cool Inside, a sumerlong weekly feature. We’re kicking off this series by turning our eyes — and hanging tongues — in the direction of LaRosa’s Bakery in Shrewsbury.

Every Friday through Labor Day week, we’ll focus on one treat. What’s the selection criteria? Our aim is to call out deep-down, body-cooling desserts and other goodies available locally. Could be an Italian ice, a milkshake, a banana split. We’re open to ideas.
