If you haven’t gotten the reel ready for spring, now’s the time.
The state Division of Fish & Wildlife has announced its spring stocking schedule, and there’s plenty of trout on the menu.
The agency will drop about 600,00 trout in waters around New Jersey in coming days, leading up to opening day on April 9.
Shadow Lake in Middletown and Mohawk Pond in Red Bank are on the list.
The rules are simple: you’re limited to six a day, and you can’t keep anything less than nine inches.
That shouldn’t be a problem. The division says on its website that the trout, reared at the Pequest Trout Hatchery, average 10-and-a-half-inches at stocking time.
You’ll need a license, too. Info on getting one can be found here.
