Red Bank voters eager to eliminate partisanship from local elections and governance won’t get their wish this year.

A referendum initiative calling for non-partisan elections and a change to the form of local government lost steam over the summer and won’t be on November’s ballot. But its foremost advocates say they’re not giving up.

RED BANK: SUNSHINE FOR OYSTER FESTIVAL

After a night of heavy rain, clouds lay over Red Bank Friday morning, as seen from a perch high above the Navesink River.

Some additional precipitation is possible before early afternoon, but the Greater Green will get a long-overdue dose of sunshine this weekend, according to the National Weather Service. That bodes well for Sunday’s Guinness Oyster Festival.

Red Bank’s chaotic English Plaza and White Street area may become a part-time oasis under a concept plan unveiled Wednesday night.

Working with a $500,000 zero-interest loan from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, Red Bank RiverCenter also aims to make the space safer for pedestrians an motorists, officials told the borough council.

RED BANK: GOP TO RUN MAYORAL CANDIDATE

Her name has appeared on campaign lawn signs for weeks, but on Tuesday, a Red Bank political neophyte made it official: she’s running for mayor.

Pearl Lee, a retiree and singer from Alston Court, will top the Republican ticket ballot in November’s election. She’ll also be the first GOP opponent of Democratic incumbent Mayor Pasquale Menna since he won the seat in 2006.

08/02- Michael Lovanyak, 56, Toms River was placed under arrest following a traffic stop for operating a motor vehicle during a period of suspension.  He was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after a glass pipe containing CDS was located inside of the vehicle. Officer Patrick Anderson was the arresting Officer.

Like visitors circling the White Street lot in search of a spot, Red Bank merchants and residents took another spin at solving downtown parking issues Monday night.

In the same auditorium where a similar forum was held 14 months ago, about 50 participants showed up at the borough middle school to advocate for improvements, many of them echoes of long-standing complaints and suggestions.

Word of a ramp-up of code enforcement — including foot patrols — for matters like unmowed lawns and rubbish came in response to a complaint that some residents have been threatened with fines for minor infractions.
