LSFD 010614 2It’s unlikely to make it into the Norton Anthology of Poetry, unless there’s a municipal edition.

But Little Silver Mayor Bob Neff’s versified annual reflection on the year just ended manages to inject a touch of cornball mirth and meter into the town’s government reorganization ceremony, as it did Monday night.

Another homey touch: for the first time in the borough’s history, the volunteer fire department and first aid squads are headed, simultaneously, by a husband and wife.

LITTLE SILVER BOOSTS ELEVATION LAW

Like Rumson and Sea Bright before it, Little Silver adopted new federal elevation standards for homes in flood zones Monday night, only this time with a recommendation that homeowners go higher.

By a unanimous vote, the borough council adopted an ordinance amendment that would require all new homes, and existing homes that suffered substantial water damage during Hurricane Sandy, to follow the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s new ABFE advisory base flood elevation guidelines, plus a foot for extra protection.

NEFF TAKES LITTLE SILVER MAYORAL RACE

election_2011_plainLittle Silver Mayor Bob Neff Jr. coasted to victory over Independent Councilman Dan Levine in the race for the tiny borough’s top job Tuesday, according to the Monmouth County Clerk’s website.

Incumbent Democratic Councilman Dan O’Hern Jr, and Republican Dane Mihlon claimed the two open council seats, leaving Independent Jennifer Pardee a distant third.
