Trader Joe’s appears to be gearing up for its Shrewsbury opening sometime in the near future.
How near is the big question. Sorry, we don’t know when exactly the supermarket chain will open its doors to its rabidly faithful followers, but you can thank corporate reticence for that.
Anyway, signs, including the big red one in Hawaiian-style lettering erected in the Treasure Island Plaza last week, point to “soon.”

Repeated attempts to reach a spokeswoman at TJ’s headquarters in California have been unsuccessful, and a manager at the Shrewsbury location said all questions must go through the corporate office until the store officially opens.
On Tuesday, as workers appeared to continue installing shelves and wrap up construction inside the 12,000-square-foot store, located on Route 35, a group of prospective employees spent time filling out paperwork and munching on company-brand cereals and pretzels.
The info lockdown appears extensive. When redbankgreen asked two young women exiting the store if they were employees, one said yes and the other hastily pulled her away and said no.
A competitor to Whole Foods, as well as a handful of supermarkets and local independent foodsellers, the Shrewsbury Trader Joe’s will be the closest location for any fan in the area, with the next available TJ’s requiring a trip over the Driscoll Bridge to Westfield.
