Eyeing the cookie jar in the coffee station at Jon Lori Salon in Fair Haven, stomach rumbling, PieHole realized that scheduling back-to-back appointments left no time for lunch.
Pam Guzzo, a brilliant hair stylist and friend with supersonic hearing, handed me a folder full of menus.
“We’re ordering lunch,” she said, “what are you in the mood for?”

Conjuring fond memories of spicy hot and sour soup, we plucked the Super Golden menu from the stack, and decided unanimously that soup would work. From the surprising number of options – there were a dozen – we chose a Pad Thai soup with shrimp and a Hong Kong noodle soup with shrimp dumplings, assuming that at $6.25 and $6.50 respectively, each would be enough for one person.
Delivery was swift, and the quarts of soup, plenty for two or three people, were nice and hot. The Pad Thai soup broth was a lightly fragrant seafood-based brew with evocative hints of garlic and lemongrass. It was full of rice noodles and plenty of juicy, fresh shrimp. The slivers of spicy green chilies kept the soup interesting. Next time we order this soup though, we’ll request it extra spicy.
The Hong Kong noodle with shrimp dumpling soup had a more traditional wonton soup broth. Full of slurp-able noodles, the dumplings each had an entire shrimp in the middle. Guzzo deemed the soup “too full of noodles, but very good.”
The Super Golden lunch was a hit at the salon and all agreed that they will order again. Knowing that this restaurant will deliver to Fair Haven, a new to-go menu has been tucked inside PieHole‘s ever growing take-out folder.
