A one-year pilot program to encourage the recycling of plastic film waste enters its second month in Red Bank Wednesday.
Despite some glitches, the first was “a success,” said the borough official overseeing it, as he faced questions about costs.

Authorized by borough voters earlier this month, the Red Bank Charter Study Commission has scheduled its first meeting.
Bundled up against the cold, hundreds of stoked-for-the-season revelers cheered the return of Holiday Express to downtown Red Bank Friday night.
A partial stage-lighting outage was the only bit of rust as the Tim McLoone-led orchestra played its 28th annual show on Broad Street, after skipping 2020 for the pandemic.
As in the past, the concert and downtown light-up followed a dance performance at the borough train station and Santa parade to the concert stage.

After a pandemic year off, the high-energy Holiday Express concert and Town Light-Up is slated to return to downtown Red Bank Friday night.
Attendees will want to bundle up for what looks to be a seasonally appropriate chilly and breezy event.

At its semimonthly meeting Tuesday night, the Red Bank council is expected to consider a new employment pact with the borough’s acting administrator.
Also on deck: appointing a Master Plan consultant; weighing in on the future of the charter school; and anticipating a looming retirement at borough hall.

With sunshine and temperatures nearing 70 degrees, a passenger turned a pontoon’s deck into a dance floor as it motored the Navesink River past Riverside Gardens Park in Red Bank Wednesday afternoon.
The sunshine will continue Friday, but peak temperatures will return to the more seasonal high 40s, according to the National Weather Service.

Anticipating possible challenges to its authority on two fronts, Red Bank’s Historic Preservation Commission was in a muscle-flexing posture Wednesday night.
It’s official: Democrats Jacqueline Sturdivant, left, and Kate Triggiano are the winners of this year’s race for seats on the Red Bank council.
The five winners in the race for charter study commission were also unchanged from the preliminary results posted on election night, November 2.

A New York City planning firm will run a series of public sessions and set up a web portal for comments while overhauling Red Bank’s Master Plan, planning board members said Monday night.
The promised outreach effort put the proposal by BFJ Planning “heads and tails above” four other pitches for the contract, said member David Cassidy.
The free, 24/7 pantries have been installed at the YMCA, above, and Lunch Break, below.

The Red Bank Rotary has created three “Mother’s Pantries” as freestanding pantries to distribute diapers, baby wipes and feminine hygiene products to those in need.
In partnership with Lunch Break, the Salvation Army and the Red Bank Family YMCA, these pantries will provide a limited free supply of items often needed by families. The colorfully painted, unlocked pantries are accessible 24/7 for anyone in need to use.

The choice of a consultant to lead the rewriting of Red Bank’s Master Plan is expected to get a spotlight at the planning board meeting scheduled for Monday night.
After a demand by Councilman Michael Ballard for greater transparency, the board is expected to review its selection process.
A key intersection in downtown Red Bank will be closed for construction Monday night.
West Front Street at Broad Street will be closed from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday for work related to a sewer line replacement, borough police announced Friday. Detours will be in place.

Amid a booming market for six-stringed instruments, a boutique retailer of electric guitars has opened in downtown Red Bank.
Also in this edition of Retail Churn: a new combo toy and sports memorabilia shop, and a Ukrainian maker of custom tables and jewelry making its United States landfall, both on Broad Street.
After a one-year pandemic interruption, groups of school children returned to the annual Veterans Day commemoration in Red Bank Thursday.
With poems, songs and handmade ‘thank you’ cards for veterans, students from St. James School, the Red Bank Charter School and Red Bank Middle School participated in the event, held at the Veterans Monument on Monmouth Street – alongside the onetime borough hall.
