Nature is expected to deliver its own version of winter to the Greater Red Bank Green in coming days. Though freezing temperatures Friday are unlikely to produce much ice on local waters, the area could get a bit of snow and sleet Saturday.

Faux snow in a walk-in globe and an artificial-ice skating rink turned a block of downtown Red Bank into a winter wonderland for kids Sunday afternoon.
The nip in the air and the wintry mood, however, will be washed away Monday. Expect rain through most of the day, with temperatures peaking in the mid-50s, according to the National Weather Service.

Enjoying the first snowfall of the season, Jack Monroe of Red Bank had his hands full walking his dog, Finn, through the parking lot at Tower Hill Church Tuesday morning.
“He’s loving it,” said Monroe. “A half-hour walking is taking an hour because he keeps laying down in the snow.”

Recently returned for its second visit, a giant inflatable elf was in its native element as snow fell on downtown Red Bank Monday.
The 12-foot-tall Santa’s helper is perched atop the vacant former bank building at 55 Broad Street, owned by developer Saxum Real Estate. During the holiday season, the elf will “mysteriously move” among Saxum’s properties around New Jersey, the firm said in a press release.

A winter storm that’s expected to begin Monday and continue overnight could have modest effect on the Greater Red Bank Green, according to the National Weather Service.
Expect morning rain turning to sleet in the afternoon, with snow mixing in starting around 3 p.m. Overnight, the storm is expected to leave between one to four inches locally and end around 4 a.m. Tuesday.
Areas to the immediate west and north, however, will see heavier accumulations, with possible impacts on transportation.

A gray afternoon provided an appropriate autumn setting for Halloween trick-or-treating in downtown Red Bank Thursday.
Then came powerful winds overnight, leaving multiple power outages on the Greater Red Bank Green, according to JCP&L’s outage map. A wind advisory issued by the National Weather Service warned of wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour until noon Friday.

Rain forced a one-week postponement of the Red Bank Halloween parade Sunday. But the 39th annual Red Bank Crop Walk drew hundreds of participants who completed a five-mile circuit that began and ended at Red Bank Regional High.

Weather conditions appear favorable for a pair of Halloween-themed events in Red Bank, according to the National Weather Service.
The festivities begin 7 p.m. Friday at Count Basie Fields with a Halloween Egg Hunt. Clear skies and cool temperatures are expected.
Sunday’s parade, the 72nd annual, will assemble as it did last year at Irving Place at Arthur Place starting at 1 p.m., with a kickoff an hour later. As of Friday morning, the forecast called for a 40-percent chance of rain after 3 p.m., when the activities will be winding down.
