All eyes are on a brewing storm named Florence that threatens to impact the Eastern Seaboard later this week.
“Florence is forecast to become a major hurricane this morning, and is expected to remain an extremely dangerous major hurricane through Thursday,” the National Weather Service reported early Monday.
Labor Day is past, but summer steamrolls on Tuesday, when heat and humidity are expected to yet again yield a combined index of 100 in the area that includes the Greater Red Bank Green.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the region from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Heavy dust from road rebuilding work on East Bergen Place in Red Bank combined with a heat index above 100 to make the intersection at Broad Street a particularly hellish spot Wednesday.
Borough public utilities Director Cliff Keen said his department is “working on” mitigating the dust following complaints. And the Greater Green will experience some easing of the heat in coming days, according to the National Weather Service. Unfortunately, rain that’s also forecast could put a damper on the coming Labor Day weekend.

The Greater Red Bank Green is in for some sultry weather. With temperatures in the low 90s and high humidity, outdoor air will feel like 100-plus degrees, according to the National Weather Service, which has issued a heat advisory from noon Tuesday until 8 p.m. Wednesday.

With temperatures in the ‘feels-like’ area of 100 degrees through much of the day, a splash in a wading pool was in order at the closing installment of Dogs Days of Summer in Marine Park in Red Bank Monday night.
It’s gonna be a scorcher on the Greater Red Bank Green Monday afternoon, when peak temperatures in excess of 90 degrees and high humidity combine to push the “feels-like” temperature above 100, according to the National Weather Service.
A heat advisory is in effect from noon until 7 p.m., with cautions to avoid outdoor exertion and consume lots of water. The heat index could reach 104, the NWS warned.

There’s rough weather ahead on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. With daytime temperatures peaking at about 85 degrees under increasingly cloudy skies, the Greater Red Bank Green should expect thunderstorms after 5 p.m., some of them possibly severe, with heavy rain and strong winds. “Locally treacherous seas” will make marine navigation hazardous, the NWS said in a briefing issued Tuesday morning.

Power utility Jersey Central Power & Light reported isolated power outages on the Greater Red Bank Green as sporadic heavy rain and strong winds lashed the area early Monday. As of 7 a.m., the company reported 853 Monmouth County customers without power.
The rain, possibly accompanied by thunderstorms and coastal flooding, is expected to continue until around 2 p.m.
